Deckbuilding Basics
Step 1: Deck Requirements
When building a Kaiju Ketsugo! TCG deck, it’s important to acknowledge the of deckbuilding requirements before leaping in headfirst. Take a moment to refer to these rules before and as you build your deck.
Each Kaiju Ketsugo! TCG deck must consist of:
• 60 cards (7 of which are Joule cards (♦ More on this below)
• No less than 15 Origin Kaiju
• No more than 3 copies of any unique card (♣ More on this below)
• No more than 4 Environment cards
• No more than 2 copies of any unique Environment card (♣)
• 1 of each Joule represented in the Joule Pile(♦)
• A maximum of 3 Kilojoules in the Joule Pile (♦)
♦ The 7 Joule cards will be shuffled into a ‘Joule Pile’ or ‘Joule Deck’ and placed separately from your main deck.
♣ A unique card is defined as one whose name and abilities or image is different than any other. For example, you can have as many Cubsorbs in your deck as you please, but you can only have 3 of each Cubsorb with an ability set or image.
Step 2: Style Determination
When beginning to build a deck, it’s crucial to first decide how you want your deck to play. This initial step sets the foundation for your strategy, helping you capitalize on your preferred style and strengths. Use this guide as a starting point to identify what kind of player you are—select two or more elements that best describe your approach to battles.
By knowing which elements resonate with your playstyle, you can craft a deck in Kaiju Ketsugo! that not only embodies your personality but also maximizes your chances of collecting all seven Joules and saving Anèria from the brink of destruction!
-
Air players thrive on mischief and cunning. They enjoy disrupting opponents' plans with unpredictable twists and surprises. Key strengths include the ability to shift opponent’s Kaiju positions, different Ascension requirements, an ebb and flow between Ascension and Descension, higher card draw, and an unpredictable game flow. However, Air decks often struggle with synergy. Sometimes too much randomness can be a double-edged sword.
-
Earth players are the immovable force in any match. Their style is firm, constant, and relentless, applying straightforward pressure with a rock-solid defense. Earth boasts the most synergy among Joule types, and has a high base energy ('e'). Though their simplicity can sometimes be a downside, relying on straightforward strategies that may feel less flashy can be incredibly dependable.
-
Electric players are deliberate and measured, favoring well-calculated plans executed with precision. They excel in moving Kaiju periodically and unleashing strong well-timed attacks after building up charges ©. Electric decks pull from all Origins, but their lower base energy means they need careful resource management to avoid running out of energy. Despite this challenge, their adaptability can turn the tide of any duel.
-
Fire players embody volatility and force. They revel in overwhelming foes with relentless combos and ramping damage, thriving on unquenchable power and second chances via Smolder and Ascension mechanics. Fire decks offer explosive plays, yet they suffer from less synergy and card draw, demanding careful hand management, timing and Kaiju placement.
-
Flora decks emphasize growth, endurance, and adaptation. These players enjoy gradual, transformative strategies, leveraging survivability and defensive positions while climbing through Ascension. Flora strengths lie in their varied playstyles, but many abilities depend on chance, and the cards sometimes suffer from limited card draw and few combo opportunities.
-
Water players are elusive, flexible, and versatile. They prize defense, high card draw, and the freedom to Ascend or Descend at will. Water decks often feature higher synergy, making them adaptable to many situations. However, their attacks typically pack less of a punch, so players must rely on clever defense and consistent energy control to triumph.
Step 3: Favorite Kaiju/abilities
After you determine which playstyles best suit you, find a few Kaiju whose abilities intrigue you and fit your style. To do this, you can use your own cards or browse the Card Catalog.
Make sure they are viable against other Kaiju and have some synergy with one another. Try and visualize how you would play them in a game.
Step 4: Ascensions & Fill
Next, ensure that you have proper Ascension Kaiju, Ascension Condition Kaiju and some good Support Kaiju if needed. Finally, select a couple of Environment cards and several utility cards that will reinforce your deck’s strategy.
A good rule of thumb is to have around 25-30 Kaiju for play, 8-15 Kaiju for Ascension Conditions and Support, and the rest Action/ Reaction Utility and Environment cards.
Step 5: Kilojoule Selection
Finally, select Kilojoules that compliment your Kaiju’s Joule type and abilities. Make sure that your selected Kilojoules are beneficial to your deck!
When you have your 53-card main deck and 7 Joule cards, you’re ready for a test. Find a friend and get started.
