Another Card Game?

There are a lot of interesting card games in development or just being released right now, so when people first hear about the Kaiju Ketsugo! TCG, they immediately think of the mass of swirling Kickstarter ads they’ve seen recently. Factor in the many of them that are a Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V of MTG mechanics featuring AI art and some pretty reasonable questions begin to beg for answers. “Why do we need another card game?” Trust us, we ask it too.

The answer is simple though, and it’s not what first comes to mind. The big games are stale. At least that’s the way we feel and what we hear others say also. If your LGS is struggling to get players to attend events, even while major IPs are pumping out new product, consider those games moldy bread. Card games have existed since humans have scrawled on parchment and yet, there has been very little innovation in the last 20+ years. New titles come and go, sure. But they’re either all backed by mega corporations such as Blackrock, Vanguard and Statestreet (*cough cough * looking at you Nintendo, Hasbro, WOTC *) or they quit early because they didn’t meet their monetary quotas. Sometimes both happen simultaneously.

Truth be told, we just can’t stand the idea of living in a world where there are 3-5 decent games to play throughout the entirety of our lives. It’s time for a new thing.

Once that’s agreed upon, the next question becomes, “why yours?” and the answer to that is one we must let you decide for yourself. We hope that you’ll see the difference in our game - not just in how it plays, but also in how we manage it and treat our players. The game is good. Often called a Pokemon knock-off at first glance, once players get into a game of Kaiju Ketsugo!, they’re challenged beyond what they have ever been in Pokemon. By the end of a game, most players will concede that even the art style has significant differences. We like that and they do too. Compared to MTG, it’s an easier entry. It maintains the customization of Magic without having to consult a rulebook for each card. And Yu-Gi-Oh!… don’t get us started. Now, that’s not to say we don’t like those games, but we didn’t really want to play them.

All in all, we made the game we wanted to play. Tired of that old thing, we decided to embark on adventure anew. Kaiju Ketsugo! TCG is that. We’re figuring this thing out as we go, attempting to build a community, not for its money, but for mutual enjoyment, and writing a single narrative through both our actions and the content we provide. The story of Kaiju Ketsugo! is within the game and without. We invite you to be a part of not just another card game, but a journey.

Sincerely, thank you for being a part of it, however small that part may be.
